Religious Education
Intent
At Highfield Community Primary School, We believe that it is vital for all our pupils to learn from and about religion so that they can understand the World around them. We use the Gateshead Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education as the basis for our curriculum.
Through Religious Education, pupils develop their knowledge of the World faiths, and their understanding and awareness of the beliefs, values and traditions of other individuals, societies, communities and cultures. We encourage our pupils to ask questions about the world and to reflect on their own beliefs, values and experiences.
Our Religious Education curriculum is further enhanced with trips to places of worship in our local area.
Implement
By ensuring high standards of teaching and learning in Religious Education, we implement a curriculum that is progressive throughout the whole school. As a school we have created a comprehensive progression document for staff to follow and embed every element of the RE curriculum. The knowledge and skills statements build year on year to deepen and challenge our learners.
We use individual assessments to track children’s progress In Religious Education. Children also complete their own self- assessments at the end of each unit.
Each class have their own RE books, where evidence will be recorded through pupil voice, photographs and handwritten work where appropriate.
