A Highfield Community Primary School, we teach early reading through Little Wandle letters and Sounds Revised. This is a systematic and synthetic phonics programme. 

Phonics begins in nursery and is implemented through Phase 1 Linking sounds and letters and Little Wandle Foundation for Phonics. We provide a balance of adult and child led experiences that meet the needs of the children and the curriculum expectations. 

In Reception and Year 1, Phonics sessions are taught daily following the Little Wandle expectations of progress. Daily phonics sessions or catch up sessions are timetabled for other children throughout school if support for reading is needed.
